Lourens Nel is the Managing Director and founding partner of Uniqueco Property Valuers. With more than 31 years of practical experience, he is a registered Professional Valuer specialising in mass appraisal, property portfolios, expropriation and right-of-way servitude valuations. Lourens has completed and managed more than 2,500 kilometres of servitude assessments and has handled corporate and government property portfolios valued at more than R100 billion. Servitude and Right-of-Way Expertise Servitude valuations are required when infrastructure such as power lines, pipelines, roads, railways or communication networks crosses privately owned land. Lourens’s work includes: Determining the value of land or rights being acquired Assessing the effect of a servitude on the remaining property Applying strip-valuation and before-and-after valuation methods Evaluating restrictions on the property’s present and future use Assessing injurious affection and possible loss in value Advising on fair and reasonable compensation Assisting landowners, authorities and infrastructure developers Professional and Industry Leadership Lourens is actively involved in the South African Right of Way Association (SARWA), Chapter 83 of the International Right of Way Association. His leadership roles have included: President of SARWA International Director for SARWA Chair of SARWA’s Valuation Community of Practice Executive Committee Chair for Marketing and Communications Through these roles, he promotes professional education, ethical conduct and greater public understanding of property valuation, land acquisition, expropriation and right-of-way matters.
