About Simon’s Town

Marine Big 5

The Marine Big Five is undoubtedly one of the town’s biggest assets and the whole family can explore a wide range of water sports and adventures during all seasons. Enjoy water bikes and kayaking, go diving or snorkelling or take a boat trip to view the Southern Right and Humpback whales when they grace False Bay annually with their magnificence between June and November. Diving or snorkelling will also take you up close to various shark species, dolphins, seals, and our beloved African Penguin.

Blue Flag Status

Another phenomenal aspect of this world-class destination is the proud environmental status that includes an International Blue Flag Marina at False Bay Yacht Club, and Simon’s Bay which, as part of the unique gateway to the False Bay coastline, was made a Mission Blue Marine “Hope Spot” in 2014.

Just Nuisance

Visitors who enjoy walks and views can visit Admiral’s Waterfall and the grave of our legendary Great Dane, Able Seaman Just Nuisance. From Barnard Street, walk straight onto the waterfall or go left up Klawer Steps to see the town and the Naval dockyard from an elevated position at the top of Redhill. Those not able to tackle the stairs can drive up Redhill, follow the signage and enter the navy’s Signal School grounds to access both the war memorial and Just Nuisance’s resting place from a more level area.

To Do

Self-drive visitors also have the choice of hopping onto a scooter to whizz around the peninsula, or book guided driving/walking tours and hiking experiences.

Jubilee Square is the hub of the town and is home to the statue of Just Nuisance as well as being the venue of choice for fun-filled experiences for the whole family; the square hosts street markets and seasonal festivals where you can come and listen to the beats of local musicians, view arts and crafts or join the annual bridal fair where the bubbly flows and you’ll find excellent food, fit for any special occasion.

Other fabulous entertainment highlights for the whole family include nearby mini indoor Cave-golf at Scratch Patch Mineral World, and not to be missed, the most thrilling and famous night-time historical ghost tour through the centre of town past the wall of remembrance and ending in the historic burying ground where The Unknown Seafarer lies.
