Simon’s Town Business Association (SBA) 2015 Update

The SBA will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 14 April, at the False Bay Yacht club. We invite all businesses in Simon’s Town to join us at 17h30 for drinks and snacks, prior to the meeting at 18h00. Currently some 65% of businesses are members of the SBA, we would like to make this 100%!

We continue to receive enthusiastic feedback from visitors. Typical of this was the man who said “What has happened to Simon’s Town. It used to be so quiet, now it is vibrant and looks so festive!” The improved collaboration amongst SBA members, and the SBA’s encouragement and support of events in the Town have contributed significantly to this change. This past season has been one of the best ever!

The only cloud on our horizon is security. A real challenge is the increase in vagrants, some of whom can be very aggressive. We have had several attacks by vagrants reported (on CPF car guards, MACH1 and STADCO staff) and several shop robberies, among the more recent being Larijworks and Lewis Stores. There have been reports of visitors to our Town being harassed, particularly in the evening. We cannot let this continue. Our MACH1 Security guard has intervened in numerous incidents but one man cannot be everywhere 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Accordingly improving security in the Town will continue to be a key focus of the SBA’s activities in 2015.

Fees for 2015/16
Membership dues for 2015/16 have been reduced to R480 per annum (R40 per month). The more members we have, the lower the fees can become, so please encourage your neighbouring businesses to join.
In line with the need to intensify the security presence in Town, security contributions for 2015/16 will be increased from R120 to R150 per month. This is the first increase in 4 years and very much needed to better protect our customers and businesses. Monthly security invoices will be sent to all businesses. STADCO and the Simon’s Town Civic Association also contribute monthly towards our MACH1 security guard.
