The De Beers Building, 88 St. George's Street, Simon's Town, was designed by Sir Herbert Baker and erected by Cecil John Rhodes in 1902.
Imperial Cold Storage purchased it from De Beers in 1903 and in 1921 the Standard Bank took the building over and occupied the premises until 1973.
Since then it has been used by a succession of owners as a pub or restaurant business, most of which have lasted only a short period of time.
The De Beers Building was also subsequently declared a National Monument. |

Ernest the English Bulldog was acquired by two of the bar staff when he was 6 weeks old (he was born on 10th March 1999). When these two staff members departed for England, Ernie remained as the "pub dog", and he still snores happily under the tables when he's not trying to chase motorbikes or scrounge for food. The front door has recently been modified to try to prevent his road rage!
