Sailor:
Soldier
Narrated by DavidTyndale-Biscoe
Commander
Edward Cary Tyndale-Biscoe RN was typical of those who countered
the slave trade and introduced good governance in Africa. He
relates the part the Naval Brigades played in battles on the
Red Sea littoral in 1884 and in Cecil Rhodes' Pioneers Column
to Mashonaland in 1890. Lord Roberts and of course Winston Churchill
appear in the Commander's dramatic narrative of the Naval Brigade
during its defence of Laddysmith 1899 - 1900 and the role played
by the Simon's Bay Naval Base. His campaign medals bear witness.
The revised publication is available at the Simon's Town Museum. Signed copies are available from the narrator (021) 786 4415 or email: tyndale@iafrica.com

| Looking
for information on H.M.S. Neptune
The
HMS Neptune was sunk during World War Two when she hit a minefield
off Tripoli. There was only one survivor from a crew of 750
men. Some of these men were South Africans and at least one
was a Simonite. Mr Nigel Fawcett, a volunteer at the Simon's
Town Museum, has researched the Neptune and is looking for
any further information that may be available. In the past
he has had a great deal of correspondence with Mr Ivor Ellis,
who lives in New Zealand. Mr Ellis has also very kindly, assisted
the Simon's Town Museum in its research efforts. Correspondence
can be addressed to stmuseum@mweb.co.za - for attention, Mr
N. Fawcett.
