The inaugural meeting of STSCC was held in May 2000 and by August of that year the club had 60 members. Current membership is 280, with a committee of 11, several of whom are regular lecturers at the various computer courses offered by the club.

By a mutually favourable arrangement with Simon’s Town High School, afternoon classes are held in the school computer laboratory, and include basic Beginners, Word, Intermediate, Excel, Internet/WWW, as well as special interest courses such as Digital Photo Editing, and Scanners. Once a term experts in various fields lead a Question and Answer Session which is free and open to all members, and twice a year members are invited to an informal social.

The membership fee is R40 per annum. Depending on the course, 2-hour hands-on classes run for 3 to 7 weeks on a once a week basis, at a cost of R30 per class.
