Dear Members
As I make some futile attempt at composing my thoughts towards producing that profound and literary-inspiring opening paragraph to this newsletter, I am merely left with what my gran called “collywobbles”. What with the excesses of our weather conditions currently prevailing, the “Cape of Storms” living up to its illustrious name, is it surprising that I have gone into hibernation in more ways than one? Your committee I might ad, has similarly not been in hibernation but, have been hard at work.
Our Chairman, Cdr Claude Harris, SA Navy (Rtd), has in the interim undergone spinal surgery. He is recovering very well indeed, asserting his authority as usual and keeping us on our toes. Claude it’s good to have you back so soon, albeit pretending to be unaffected by your setback. May we all at the approach of our 80th birthday be inspired by your example.
PLANNING AND PROJECTS
The Planning and Projects team have placed preliminary drawings, depicting the first stage of alterations to take place, on a notice board in the Club for your observation. Patrons are kindly requested to be patient when the renovation process commences. Every effort will be made to minimize your discomfort.
EVENTS
Several events have successfully been concluded since last writing to you. Once again, you are invited to please provide feedback and comment regarding these events. It is almost impossible to plan around rumours of assent and/or dissent. Feedback will thus equip and assist the Events Committee to make better decisions regarding members’ wishes and requirements. In the meantime, all Friday evening events have been cancelled.

Subscriptions. Thank you for the prompt response by many whose accounts were outstanding. However, there are many whose accounts are still in arrears. Final notices of demand were sent out requesting full payment by 30 September 2008. We regret to advise those members who do not comply, that their membership will be cancelled and Reciprocity Clubs will be advised accordingly.
Email addresses and cell phone numbers. Thank you once again for your co-operation. Our records are considerably improved and updated. Not as yet perfect though.
Dress Code
The committee finds it necessary to remind members that a shirt with a collar is required.
T-shirts and shoes worn without socks are not acceptable. Please ensure that your guests are suitably attired when visiting the Club.
Access Control
Members, please make an effort to have your finger prints taken to facilitate your access to the Club. It is somewhat distracting for the bar staff on particularly busy occasions to frequently be interrupted to let people in. The Manager is available at the Club from 08:00 to 15:00 Mondays to Fridays.
