The year 2005 is fast drawing to a close and this being the last newsletter from your outgoing committee, I wish to remind you and give notice of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on 25 November at 17:00 at the Club. Attached, is a 'Notice of Meeting and Agenda" for your perusal.

The AGM is a time for your Committee to report back on all Club matters and for you to elect a new committee for the ensuing year. Nomination forms for election as a committee member are available at the Club. Please give some serious thought as to whom you would like to have overseeing the interests of your Club!

To those of you who are in the area, we ask you to PLEASE BE THERE TO ENSURE A QUORUM.

Having reported extensively on activities and continued refurbishment of the Club in previous newsletters, suffice it to say that another productive year is behind us. Indeed, the God's have continued to smile on us!

As you are aware, our Chairman Cdr Claude Harris has been managing the Club since the retirement of Cdr Ters van Heerden earlier this year. We owe him a sincere vote of thanks and appreciation. He has been working extremely hard and need I mention that a rest is long overdue. His "kierie" is conspicuously in evidence these days - he says its gout but I suspect that it's an excuse to mask those advancing years. Possibly, a combination of both?

Having said the above, oh yes I'm in deep trouble, I am nevertheless pleased to announce that relief is on its way. Mr Chris Els, our current barman, has recently been appointed as the new Club Manager. He will take over as soon as a replacement behind the bar can be found.

Only recently we welcomed you into the fold Chris, it now falls upon us to congratulate you on your new appointment and wish you well with the challenges that lie ahead. The Committee, having selected you from amongst several applicants, has thus indicated its confidence in your ability to succeed. Good luck.

Enclosed are your new membership cards - paid up members only. Remember that these are a once off. In future strips will be provided to indicate validity dates.

CHAIRMAN'S CHATTER

On behalf of all members my sincere thanks to Peggy Pysden for keeping us up to date via her informative newsletters - enjoy your break with your son in the USA.

The last few months have seen a marked increase in attendance during the week, including the Saturday noon club, and support for the Club. Anita is also being kept somewhat busy serving lunches.

Many, many thanks for this and it is particularly pleasing to see so many serving Naval Officers using their Club. We should see the results of this growing support in the report your Committee will be presenting at the AGM.

CORRESPONDENCE

A recent letter received from Dr M.R. Morgan, Cdr RN/RCN (Ret), extols the wonderful hospitality he was afforded during a "homecoming" stay in "Snoekie" after 55yrs. His visit was made particularly outstanding by the hospitality he and his family received from members and staff at the Seven Seas Club. In appreciation, we received a ship's badge from the HMCS SACKVILLE, now located in Halifax. As the only surviving vessel of a fleet of 100 Corvettes participating in the Battle of the Atlantic, she is now maintained as a Memorial to the ships and their crew members lost in that crucial campaign.

Members, who by some remote chance, intend visiting Nova Scotia are invited to contact
Dr Morgan at: vleonard@ns.sympatico.ca He and his family will gladly extend similar hospitality received in Simon's Town.

Our Honorary Treasurer, Braam Esterhuizen, is currently working in Nigeria. Members may direct queries regarding their accounts directly to him at BraamE@mtnnigeria.net or alternatively to ramos@iafrica.com

In conclusion, and as no further communication will be forthcoming before the festive season is upon us, the Committee hereby wishes to convey Season's Greetings and best wishes for the New Year to you and yours. We thank you for your loyal support during the past year.

Yours aye

Peggy Pysden - or, peggyp@xsinet.co.za
