of interest Cape Town centre lies 30kms to the north on the M4 where you may enjoy a ride in Table Mountain’s revolving cable car, or catch the ferry to Robben Island from the internationally acclaimed Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, on the Eastern slopes of Table Mountain, are also worth a visit. From Cape Town you may wish to tour the Stellenbosch, Paarl
or Franschhoek Wine Routes. To the south along the M4, a 3 kilometer drive takes you to
Simon’s Town (Circa 1743) harbour/Naval Base, which played an
important role in the Royal Navy during World War 2. This
picturesque village boasts numerous restaurants, curio shops and
places of historic interest. Two kilometers outside Simon’s Town you will find the African
Penguin breeding colony at Boulders Beach. Cape Point Nature Reserve, with it’s funicular to the
lighthouse and fynbos hikes, lies 10kms further to the south. A scenic 15-minute drive over the mountain via Red Hill,
takes you to the Western side of the peninsula with its beautiful
beaches and quaint seaside villages. |
