Near to Felsensicht, one can choose a variety of beaches, including beaches with quieter rock pools and lagoons for children. Exploring the rocks and boulders strewn along the coastline is a wonderfully rewarding activity. Fisherman's Beach is perfect for body surfing, boogie boarding, kayaking or a game of beachball with family or friends.

The following beaches range from 200m to 2 km from Felsensicht:

Fisherman’s Beach, Windmill Beach, Boulders Penguin Beach (National Heritage Site - only 1 km away), Foxy Beach, Water’s Edge and Seaforth Beach.

Long Beach, Simon’s Town, is 4 km from Felsensicht.

Activities and Attractions in and around Simon's Town

Cape Point Nature reserve is only 10 km away - a short drive or an easy cycle. Once at Cape Point, one can take the funicular up to the lighthouse and enjoy the glorious view of both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

Whale watching
– whales have been sighted in False Bay between June and November.

Penguin viewing
at the Boulders Beach National Park.

Excellent choice of restaurants within walking and/or driving distance including The Meeting  Place, Bertha’s, The Salty Sea Dog, Café Pescado, The Quarter Deck, Bon Appétit (highly recommended) and, 2½ km from our home towards the south, The Black Marlin.

Simon’s Town Country Club
with Squash, Golf and Bowls is only 800m away.

Deep sea fishing
trips can be arranged or one can enjoy fishing off the rocks in front of the house or a little further afield in the Cape Point Nature Reserve.

Scuba Diving
is available at Pisces Diving Centre in Glencairn, (Mike Nortje, tel. +27(0)21 782-7205) or through Scuba Shack in Kommetjie, (tel. +27(0)21 785-6742).

Bird watching
is possible from boats going out to sea (Anne Gray on 083-311-1140; http://www.annealbatross.org/) or at various vleis and dams, eg. Rondevlei, Seekoeivlei or Strandfontein Sewerage Works which are all easily accessible by car.

Simon’s Town itself has many attractions
, including the SA Naval Base, the Yacht Club, the Naval Museum, the Toy Museum, the Simon's Town Cultural Museum, the Scratch Patch Gemstone Collection, and quaint shops including bric a brac, arts and crafts, clothing and souvenir shops. Festivals in Simon's Town include the Navy Festival in March and the Penguin festival in September. These are always colourful affairs and well supported by the locals and visitors to the area.

Further afield, the following attractions are well worth a visit:

Kalk Bay Harbour, Kirstenbosch Gardens, Table Mountain, Victoria and Albert Waterfront and the Wine Farms in the Stellenbosch, Swellendam, Paarl or Franschoek areas. Still further afied, but also well worth the trip, one can drive up the Namaqualand coast (West coast of the Cape) to see the countless fields of exquisite Namaqualand Daisies which bloom from August to October.
